Alexandrite

Alexandrite is the color change variety of the mineral species chrysoberyl. Often described as “emerald by day, ruby by night”, this exceptionally rare gemstone’s chameleon-like color change ability is a result of the way the mineral absorbs different wavelengths of light. Cats-eye alexandrite has the addition of chatoyancy (cats-eye effect) to color change. Mined in Russia, Brazil and Sri Lanka, this phenomenal gemstone is the birthstone for June and is designated for the 55th wedding anniversary.
