Chrysoberyl

First discovered in 1789, chrysoberyl was described and named by German geologist Abraham Werner. Chrysoberyl is a mineral species which includes catseye and rare color-change alexandrite. The name chrysoberyl was derived from the Greek words “chrysos” meaning gold in reference to color and “beryllos’ meaning beryl or gemstone. Traditionally chrysoberyl is a beautiful clear yellow but also occurs in an electrifying green-yellow hue along with shades of brownish yellow to yellowish green to brown. A popular gemstone in Victorian times, its popularity waned and this lovely gem faded into obscurity. Usually eye clean, never treated and durable with a hardness of 8.5, this lovely gem is perfect for everyday wear.
