Morganite

First discovered near San Diego, California in the early twentieth century, this lovely peach to pink variety of the mineral species beryl was named in honor of millionaire banking tycoon J.P. Morgan, who was an avid gemstone collector. Morganite is most often light in tone like its sister beryl - aquamarine - and is available in large sizes. Today this pastel beauty is mined in Brazil, Mozambique, Namibia, Afghanistan and Russia.
