Alexandrite is the color-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl. This June birthstone leads a double life with its yellowish, brownish or bluish green color in daylight and ornagey to purplish red colors in incandescent (spot) light. Value is based primarily on the strength o f a stone's color-change ability. Expect to find stones with good color changes up to 1.5 carats in weight and typically cut in ovals. Alexandrites make for great everyday wear due to their toughness and durability. Wear them to symbolize health and longevity or as a token of your 18th wedding anniversary.
