Rhodolite Garnet

From the Greek word “rhodon” meaning rose, this pyrope-almandine garnet’s name alludes to its pinkish color. Since it is a mix of pyrope and almandine, it is similar in appearance to both, but its pinkish or purplish tones sets it apart from the deep red and orange of other garnets. Rhodolites are available in a luscious range of hues from rosy pink to raspberry red to grape purple. Sources include

Tanzania, Mozambique, Sri Lanka and Brazil and the US (North Carolina). Garnet is designated as the birthstone for January and the 2nd wedding anniversary.
